Stop smoking with Charles!

Early 60's male patient came to see Charles two weeks ago for stop smoking session.
He used to smoke 2 packs of cigarettes per day last 30 years!
Charles gave him some tips and advice to reduce his craving and how to deal with the situations during his consultation and treatment.

Before he left clinic, ear tags were applied on his ear acupuncture points to help to reduce his craving, detoxification and strengthening his will power.

He cam last week and he said he had a little hard time in the morning as he advised but he actually could manage the cravings and he was able to control the situations so much better than he was trying to quit it by himself! He didn't touch a cigarette for a whole week.

At the end of the session, he handed me $20 and I said I appreciated his kindness but it wasn't necessary to tip me. He said "I have been smoking for thirty darn years 2 packs per day everyday. You help me stop smoking and what you are doing works! So, I wanted to treat you a lunch but I figured you are busy man! Buy some lunch today"

Patient of the week - IT band syndrome
A female patient in her 50’s came and she was complained about her leg pain that occurred several month ago. It was very painful when she touched it and pain aggregated, especially after her work out.
When it was examined and palpated lateral side of her leg,-her IT band-was very tight like a rock and she was in severe pain even with very little pressure.
Further examination, her TFL muscle and gruteal muscle are very tender and tight too.
According to her, pain was worse after the work out and especially, when flex and extend her knee.
She has been to get massage therapy and physio theray previously and unfortunately, it was very helpful for her.
What is IT band?
The iliotibial band (ITB) is a tendonous and fascial band that originates on the iliac crest (hipbone). It also attaches to the gluteal muscles (your rump) and the tensor fascia latae (TFL). The TFL is the muscle on the outside of your hip that moves your leg outward.
Why is the pain occurred in IT band?
IT band pain is typically associated with prolonged, repetitive activity. But more advanced cases may cause pain when simply walking or going up and down stairs. You may feel stiff or tight after periods of inactivity and especially after prolonged sitting.
What causes tightness in IT band?
Many factors can contribute to the problem. One is muscle imbalance, where some muscle groups are tight and others are weak or fatigued.
Tightness, or a loss in flexibility, can occur in the hip flexors, hip abductors and internal rotators. Correspondingly, it often helps to strengthen the hip extensors, abductors and external rotators.
Lastly, closed kinetic chain activity. Closed chain activities are weight-bearing exercises or activities where the foot is in contact with the ground. This creates increased tension on the IT band and a higher degree of friction.
Treatment
Electro acupuncture was used for the main treatment to stimulate associated muscle(i.e. TFL and gluteal muscles) around IT band and IT band itselt. Also, fire cupping and Gua-Sha (muscle scapping technique) were added in her treatment.
Also, light stretches for IT band and form roller self massage were recommended.
She started her treatment once a week for four weeks since May 4 th and her pain level dropped from 8/10 to 2-3/10. Moreover, her IT band and associated muscle got so much softer than before.
She came in June 21 st for her fifth treatment and there was little bit of tenderness remained but she was doing so much better. So she was very happy and satisfied.
She was scheduled for a month later and I can’t wait to see her again to see how much she will be better this time!

Late 30's female patient came to see me in the middle March this year. She had two miscarriage in 2018 one in March and the other one in June 2018. Her and her husband had to stop trying to conceive for a while at that time because of emotional difficulties. Then they tried to conceive again Since Dec 2018 but nothing had happened yet.

They had decided to seek for the help and she found me in Quispamsis Clinic. According to her, she had regular cycle of 28 days but when she had two miscarriage, her cycle got shorten up to 21 days but it was regular at least. In many cases, if the patient has irregular period, it has to be balanced first prior to treat infertility or miscarriage prevention. However, at least she had regular period, we decided to treat her in two ways at the same time: prevention of miscarriage and regulating period.

After two month and a half of the treatment, she was confirmed that she was pregnant again and we resumed her treatment to prevent the miscarriage with the joy of happy future but little bit of cautious!

As of Sep 20th, 2019, we are very pleased that she is happily and safely 19 weeks pregnant future mama!
